邀请父母来杜克（一）―签证准备

相信很多同学都有让父母到美国来走走看看的想法，为了给大家提供一些便利，回答一些基本问题，DCSSA为此特意邀请了Lily同学来和大家分享一下她的经验：

背景：Lily是1年级PhD学生，去年transfer到杜克大学，去年暑假曾回中国。今年因为功课实验繁忙无法回家，于是邀请父母过来探亲。

申请签证是第一步 现在的形势很好 只要把材料准备齐全 应该是没有问题 我的list基本都是参考mitbbs探亲版的签经 结合我们家的情况 原则是能想到的会有帮助的都准备上 我只花了大概一个星期 倒是让爸爸妈妈费了不少事情。 清单如下 英文版的面试时给签证官 中文是让爸爸妈妈用的 整理材料比较方便

一些说明：
1． 杜克发身份确认表格的地方是International Office. 需上网下载：

http://www.internationaloffice.duke.edu/Forms/ConfirmationOfStatusForm.html

打印下来后自己填写第一部分 去系里办公室填第二部分 最后带上护照、I20去International Office填写第三部分 就搞定了。
2．自己需要准备的材料中唯一花时间的就是银行的Statement, 因为有些银行会需要一两周的时间。Wachovia能直接从网上下载，挺方便的。
3．爸爸妈妈需要做得就是办一堆公证 办公证的地方是在当地司法局的公证处 收费大概370RMB 出生证需要卫生局出证明 然后在出生的医院办理 这个好像很便宜 另外如果需要补办结婚证的话一般是在当地民政厅。 办理公证需要的材料根据公证的类型各不一样 但是护照总是需要的
4．关于照片 我让妈妈准备了三类 一是我从小到大和我们一家人的 二是我在美国的以及去年回国和家人照的 三是爸爸妈妈工作的以及和其他亲戚一大家人的 妈妈费不少心思 后来证明还是近期回国的照片是签证官最关心的。
5．156 157表格用网上下载后填好寄给爸爸妈妈 一定仔细填好 多检查两遍 因为如果这个出问题需要在大使馆重新填的话对爸爸妈妈来说会是一件很影响心情的事情

我觉得这些材料中最重要的还是邀请信 自己的以及请导师写的 因为这些是95％的情况下签证官都会仔细看的 如果有硬伤（比如很久没有回国） 是解释和澄清的最好机会 所以建议大家一定用心写好 这里是师姐给的模板 经授权 贴出来给大家参考

Dear Visa Officer:

I am the daughter of the couple, A and B, who are now standing in front of you to apply for B-2 Visas to visit me for a short period of time. This letter is to provide you with some summarized information about my parents and me, and also to clarify some concerns that you might have.

I came to the U.S. on XX and studied XX for the first academic year. During the summer I went back to China and stayed with my family for a month. Then I reentered U.S. on ×× and started my graduate study in Duke. Recently I have joined a lab and started my research project. I do not plan to go back this summer as （…） However, I miss my parents a lot, and I believe they miss me much too. So I would like to invite them to visit me instead.

My parents have been living great lives in China. Both of them have been working in ×× for ×× years. My father is the ×× and my mother is the××. Both of them love their jobs and receive steady income as primary staff in ××

My parents have traveled in various provinces in China, but they have never been to the other side of the earth. By their visiting, we can have a short family reunion and they would have the opportunity to see different cultures in this wonderful country. The most important thing, however, is that they would know how my life is here in the U.S so they do not have to worry about me day and night. As to the expense of this travel, my parents will buy the flight tickets themselves and I would like to afford their living expenses in Duke and the tours to other cities. Due to the tight schedules with their present jobs, my parents will stay with me for only one month from ××. My parents would have no intention to stay further in U.S for two reasons besides their jobs. First, they don’t speak English; second, both of them have deep family relationships in China. My mother has ×× siblings and all of them live close together; my father has ×× siblings and also is the primary care provider to my grandmother, ××， who is in her 70s.

准备好材料后就该预约签证时间了 我爸爸妈妈是在成都签的 时间比较好约 好像随时都能约到未来十天以内的想要的时间 下面这个链接可以用信用卡买电话卡

mitbbs上有不少人说练习很重要 所以我成天催我爸妈练习 但好像实在没什么好练习的… 总之我是把常见问题给他们总结了下来并付上了建议的答案 让他们心里大概有数 后来证明我妈妈的临场发挥还是蛮不错的 呵呵

注意一： 自信礼貌 如果签证官叫道你们 但是前面的人还在纠缠没走开 不要着急过去 等前面人先走
注意二： 签证官可能会给出一些圈套 所以关于我的基本信息要记熟 也就是出国日期 学校 专业 什么的
注意三：我们的优势是 XX 劣势是XX 所以答问题时往优势的方向说 主动提供优势的材料 劣势的材料 他不问就不给 问到也不用隐瞒
注意四：照片很重要 分好类 他要看什么就很快能拿出来 准备几张典型的 他如果只让看些照片 就拿典型的

我还在mitbbs上下了一些签经 主要是近期成都的 让爸爸妈妈看着玩 以下付上根据我妈妈回忆的签经
排队安检交材料 就是上面清单上的基本材料 同时也把邀请人的材料全部收走了（工资存根被退出） 包括邀请信
然后在下面等啊等 签证官叫名字 上去 取指纹 对话如下：
VO：你女儿05年去美国 06年就回来了？
BM：是啊 这里有他们去年回来玩的照片
VO：（接过照片仔细看）这个是你们女儿？这个是你们？
BM：（点头）
VO：把你们房产给我看看
BM：（递进房产证）
VO：（仔细看）你们都还在工作么？
BM：是啊 我们有工作情况公证 您看吗？
VO：(有点意外)工作情况公证？我看看
BM：（递进公证）
VO：（仔细看 点头）你们计划玩多久？
BM：一个月 我们还要工作 他们也忙
然后VO开始敲键盘 俺妈觉得拿了很多照片VO都不要看不甘心 于是举起一张我跟BF在Universal Studio跟Shrek的合影让VO看 VO乐 笑笑说 恩 你们过了

总而言之 根据我妈妈的感觉 签证官不管问到什么都有材料支持挺管用的 所以材料还是准备齐全的好。
