杜克大学中国学生学者联谊会

Friday night at 7:30pm, August 8, 2008, Duke Chinese Students and Scholars Association (DCSSA) successfully held the Beijng 2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony Celebration at Duke Griffith Theater. Around 500 audiences from the Duke Community attended the opening ceremony viewing party. Audiences began to arrive around 6:30. The first 30 audiences were rewarded with Olympics mascot gifts. 80 Olympics bumper stickers were handed out. Throughout the opening ceremony, audiences were very excited and celebrated in applause numerous times.

DCSSA committee would like to thank all the audiences to join us in this worldwide festival. We would also like to thank all our committee members for the hard work to prepare the celebration party.

DCSSA will hold a badminton tournament next weekend (08/15-17) to celebrate Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Everyone is welcome to attend the tournament.

To celebrate the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, DCSSA is going to hold a badminton tournament open to the Duke community. The tournament includes five categories: Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. The tournament is going to be held from Aug 15th to Aug 17th. For registration, please email to ran.li@duke.edu with the title “DCSSA badminton tournament” and please include the following information in your email:

Player’s name
player’s department/institution
Player’s phone number (so that we can contact you easily)
Category to participate (e.g. mixed doubles)

The deadline for registration is Monday, Aug, 11th, 2008 at 10:00pm. Please bring your own racket. Nice gifts will be awarded to the winners of the tournament.

It is possible that certain category will be canceled due to a limited number of players registered.

In about two weeks, Beijing, the capital of China, will host the 29th
Games of Olympiad for the first time in the history of China. To show
the support from Chinese community at Duke university and to advocate Chinese culture, DCSSA committee is planning a eight-mile marathon relay on Duke campus on August 8, 2008. This relay is meant to be friend- and family-orientated, so let’s run, walk and have fun. All runners and walkers are welcome to join this event, and it would be ideal that the participants form teams of 3 or 4 people.

由教育部、科技部共同主办的第三届“春晖杯”中国留学人员创新创业大赛的报名阶段已正式开始，报名截止日期为2008年7月28日，报名者可登录“中国留学网（www.cscse.edu.cn, www.cscse.com.cn）”在线报名。驻美使馆馆区报名参赛留学人员联系人: Dr. Qu(River) Duan,Qduan@uctid.org

第三届“春晖杯”创业大赛的承办单位是教育部留学服务中心、科技部火炬中心、中国留学人员广州科技交流会组委会办公室、大连高新技术产业园区管委会；协办单位由北京、上海、广州、大连、苏州、西安、威海、昆山、东莞等9个城市的12家留学人员创业园，以及IDGVC技术创业投资基金、欧美同学会商会、神州学人编辑部等单位组成。中国驻外使（领）馆教育处（组），海外留学人员联谊会、协会、学会等社团组织为大赛支持单位。

国家为了吸引留学人员回国创业，或者以多种形式为国服务，出台了很多政策，各个地方政府、留学生创业园、高新园区也都出台了相关政策，并给予多方面的支撑和支持。这个大赛主要是为了配合国家科教兴国和自主创新战略这样的国家的大政方针，把留学人员创业的热情提高，把他们的项目完善。因此，从2006年起，教育部、科技部发起举办了春晖杯中国留学人员创业大赛，这个大赛汇集留学人员一些科技型的好项目到留学人员创业园中，为他们进行孵化，给与一些指导和服务，并且大赛还给留学人员回国创业起到一个导航和引渡的作用。

据介绍，迄今为止，“春晖杯”中国留学人员创新创业大赛已经成功地举办了两届。很多获奖项目已取得了实质性的进展，仅以2006年首届“春晖杯”创业大赛为例，截止2007年底，在137名获奖者中，已有53人的项目开始在国内启动或快速发展。其中有33个项目在留学人员创业园正式注册创办公司，其余20个项目与国内的企业和科研院所开展了多种形式的合作，有45个项目得到有关部委及地方政府的资助。

1、对参赛项目的要求

1)项目类别：
参赛项目应符合国家产业技术政策、有较高创新水平和较强市场竞争力、有较好的潜在经济效益和社会效益、易于形成新兴产业的高新技术成果，且具有高技术、高附加值、节能降耗、有利环境保护的科技创新项目或创意。
按行业分八大类：①电子信息②生物、医药③新材料④光机电一体化⑤资源与环境⑥新能源与高效节能⑦科技农业⑧其它高新技术领域
2)项目来源：
①本人自有专利的项目（创意）或非专利的项目（创意）；
②不属于本人（或与他人共有）的项目（或知识产权），必须经项目（或知识产权）所有人授权使用。

2、报名方式：

1)统一采用网上报名的方式进行，报名者在网上填写，分为个人报名、团队报名两种形式：
①个人报名：以个人名义在网上报名参赛；
②团队报名：团队报名不超过5人，须推举出其中1人为第一参赛者，其它人员为署名参赛者，若该团队获奖，大赛组委会只资助第一参赛者作为团队代表回国参加项目对接、洽谈，以及大赛颁奖等活动。
2)报名参赛请遵循以下步骤：
①注册用户
②填写参赛者基本信息
③填写参赛项目信息
④上传项目书/商业计划书
⑤报名截止前提交全部报名材料
注：填写表格及撰写项目书/商业计划书须用中文。其中，涉及到学习或工作单位、专业术语等可使用外文。
3)报名网址：请登录中国留学网http://www.cscse.edu.cn在线报名；
4)报名时间：2007年4月6日~7月30日。

4、大赛进程

4月– 7月报名阶段
8月项目评审、入围项目公示、反馈评审意见
8月下旬－12月入围者完善项目书/商业计划书
12月下旬入围者回国参加创业交流、项目对接、洽谈等

5、大赛奖励

1)优秀奖：凡是获得入围资格且回国参加项目洽谈合作的留学人员即被评为优秀奖。
2)二等奖：凡是获得入围资格且在回国参加项目洽谈合作过程中与留学人员创业园签订入驻意向或获得留学人员创业园创业资助的留学人员即被评为二等奖。
3)一等奖：凡是获得入围资格且在回国参加项目洽谈合作过程中获得投资机构（投资人）投资的留学人员即被评为一等奖。

凡是入围且回国参加项目洽谈合作的第一参赛者都将得到一次回国往返国际旅费及在广州培训和颁奖期间食宿资助，入围的已回国的第一参赛者得到一次往返广州的旅费及在广州培训和颁奖期间食宿资助。
4)优秀组织单位奖：为了表彰在创业大赛中积极组织留学人员参赛的使（领）馆教育处（组）以及留学人员联谊会、校友会、专业技术社团等单位，经商教育部国际合作与交流司留学工作处，特设创业大赛优秀组织单位奖。

奖励办法：
①凡组织留学人员参赛，且参赛的项目经评审入围，其组织单位将荣登第二届“‘春晖杯’中国留学人员创新创业大赛”优秀组织单位表彰名单；
②凡组织留学人员参赛，且参赛的项目经项目评审，入围项目数量较多，其组织单位将被授予2006首届“‘春晖杯’中国留学人员创新创业大赛” 优秀组织单位奖奖牌；并在适当时候组织获奖单位选派代表回国交流。
颁奖地点：广州留学人员科技交流会
颁奖时间：2007年12月下旬

6、大赛评审

大赛评审委员会将秉承公平、公正、公开的原则，组织风险投资机构负责人、企业家、留学人员创业园管理者及有关专家对参赛项目进行评审工作。
1.评委由风险投资机构、企业家、留学人员创业园管理者及有关专家组成，并采取分组评审的方式进行；
2.凡评审委员均须签署“春晖杯”中国留学人员创新创业大赛保密协议。

Due to the absence of keynote speakers and a broader audience in the summertime, we have to postpone July 18th’s nationalism salon until the next semester. We apologize for this unexpected change. We will continue cordially holding the first member meeting and social activity for you on July 18th from 5:30pm to 8:00pm in multicultural lounge in Bryan Center. Delicious Chinese food will be provided. In this social activity, we will introduce this brand new organization, Duke China Forum, to you. 　　源于纪念屈原

　　据《史记》“屈原贾生列传”记载，屈原，是春秋时期楚怀王的大臣。他倡导举贤授能，富国强兵，力主联齐抗秦，遭到贵族子兰等人的强烈反对，屈原遭馋去职，被赶出都城，流放到沅、湘流域。他在流放中，写下了忧国忧民的《离骚》、《天问》、《九歌》等不朽诗篇，独具风貌，影响深远（因而，端午节也称诗人节）。公元前278年，秦军攻破楚国京都。屈原眼看自己的祖国被侵略，心如刀割，但是始终不忍舍弃自己的祖国，于五月五日，在写下了绝笔作《怀沙》之后，抱石投汨罗江身死，以自己的生命谱写了一曲壮丽的爱国主义乐章。

　　传说屈原死后，楚国百姓哀痛异常，纷纷涌到汨罗江边去凭吊屈原。渔夫们划起船只，在江上来回打捞他的真身。有位渔夫拿出为屈原准备的饭团、鸡蛋等食物，“扑通、扑通”地丢进江里，说是让鱼龙虾蟹吃饱了，就不会去咬屈大夫的身体了。人们见后纷纷仿效。一位老医师则拿来一坛雄黄酒倒进江里，说是要药晕蛟龙水兽，以免伤害屈大夫。后来为怕饭团为蛟龙所食，人们想出用楝树叶包饭，外缠彩丝，发展成棕子。

　　以后，在每年的五月初五，就有了龙舟竞渡、吃粽子、喝雄黄酒的风俗；以此来纪念爱国诗人屈原。

　　源于纪念伍子胥

　　端午节的第二个传说，在江浙一带流传很广，是纪念春秋时期（公元前770–前476年）的伍子胥。伍子胥名员，楚国人，父兄均为楚王所杀，后来子胥弃暗投明，奔向吴国，助吴伐楚，五战而入楚都郢城。当时楚平王已死，子胥掘墓鞭尸三百，以报杀父兄之仇。吴王阖庐死后，其子夫差继位，吴军士气高昂，百战百胜，越国大败，越王勾践请和，夫差许之。子胥建议，应彻底消灭越国，夫差不听，吴国大宰，受越国贿赂，谗言陷害子胥，夫差信之，赐子胥宝剑，子胥以此死。子胥本为忠良，视死如归，在死前对邻舍人说：“我死后，将我眼睛挖出悬挂在吴京之东门上，以看越国军队入城灭吴”，便自刎而死，夫差闻言大怒，令取子胥之尸体装在皮革里于五月五日投入大江，因此相传端午节亦为纪念伍子胥之日。
　　源于纪念孝女曹娥

　　端午节的第三个传说，是为纪念东汉（公元23–220年）孝女曹娥救父投江。曹娥是东汉上虞人，父亲溺于江中，数日不见尸体，当时孝女曹娥年仅十四岁，昼夜沿江号哭。过了十七天，在五月五日也投江，五日后抱出父尸。就此传为神话，继而相传至县府知事，令度尚为之立碑，让他的弟子邯郸淳作诔辞颂扬。

　　孝女曹娥之墓，在今浙江绍兴，后传曹娥碑为晋王义所书。后人为纪念曹娥的孝节，在曹娥投江之处兴建曹娥庙，她所居住的村镇改名为曹娥镇，曹娥殉父之处定名为曹娥江。

　　源于古越民族图腾祭

　　近代大量出土文物和考古研究证实：长江中下游广大地区，在新石器时代，有一种几何印纹陶为特征的文化遗存。该遗存的族属，据专家推断是一个崇拜龙的图腾的部族—-史称百越族。出土陶器上的纹饰和历史传说示明，他们有断发纹身的习俗，生活于水乡，自比是龙的子孙。其生产工具，大量的还是石器，也有铲、凿等小件的青铜器。作为生活用品的坛坛罐罐中，烧煮食物的印纹陶鼎是他们所特有的，是他们族群的标志之一。直到秦汉时代尚有百越人，端午节就是他们创立用于祭祖的节日。在数千年的历史发展中，大部分百越人已经融合到汉族中去了，其余部分则演变为南方许多少数民族，因此，端午节成了全中华民族的节日。

南极气温上升导致小企鹅大量冻死

羊城晚报7月14日报道南极地区连续爆发反常暴风雨，导致成千上万只新生小企鹅活活冻死。据估计，经此一难，南极企鹅数目将锐减两成。南极专家认为，这是气候变化给南极地区带来的又一灾难性影响。

南极下雨多过下雪

科学家相信，受灾最严重的阿德利企鹅数目将下降至80%，如果天气短期内不能转好，情况可能更严重，不到10年，这一物种或将从地球上消失。

在过去50年里，南极大陆的平均温度上升了3摄氏度，达到-14.7摄氏度，冬季频发的暴风雪渐渐被更加冰冷刺骨的暴风雨所代替。

阿德利企鹅刚出生时仅有薄薄一层保暖皮毛，小企鹅需要40天的时间才能长出防水的羽毛，然而连日暴雨将整个巢穴都浸湿了，企鹅父母在时还能为子女遮风挡雨，一旦离巢觅食，小企鹅往往会因为体温过低而死。

“长期以来人们注意到了冰架在溶解，但南极冷雨却是前所未有的新现象，企鹅正面临寒冷致死的威胁。”刚刚从南极归来的纽约探险家强・鲍尔马斯特说，“它们的皮毛可以在大雪中保护自己，却不能应付暴雨，这就好像一个穿着厚夹克却被雨淋湿的人一样。”

帝企鹅乐园遭摧毁

奥斯卡获奖纪录片《帝企鹅日记》描绘了憨态可掬的帝企鹅生存及繁衍的场景，令人印象深刻，然而西雅图华盛顿大学生物学教授笛伊・波尔斯曼痛心指出，2006年12月，也就是这部电影拍摄不到两年后，她再抵达当年的拍摄地南极南部，“已经完全认不出这就是纪录片里的企鹅乐园。” 笛伊说，她完全没看到帝企鹅幼仔，也看不到浮冰，冰山数目大大减少。据悉，去年9月份，也就是帝企鹅育儿期间，当地曾被一场大型暴风雨所袭击，“极少企鹅幼仔能够幸存。”

“看见企鹅们脚下都是下一代的残骸，这才是我所见过气候变化最令人震撼以及最直接的证据。”鲍尔马斯特说。 (本文来源：金羊网-羊城晚报作者：方海)

Institutes of Biomedical Sciences at Fudan University (IBS in short hereinafter) invites applications for PI positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels.

Guided by the latest International Biomedical development and driven by needs arising from state developing strategies, IBS aims to becoming an original interdisciplinary research facility with a highly integration of Biology, Clinical and Fundamental Medicine.
